GUI (pronounced "gooey") stands for Graphic User Interface. GUI is a generic name for any computer interface which used graphics, windows and a pointing device such as a mouse as its primary means of environment control--as opposed to a purely character-based interface. Common examples of GUI interfaces are the Macintosh and Windows environments. The Internet can be accessed with GUIs, such as graphical Web browsers and other Internet service clients such as FTP, Gopher or Email. GUI Internet clients hide the complex UNIX commands and other non-graphical information and commands which the Internet is based on.
